Program Overview: This training is designed to give participants a solid understanding of major approaches to couples or relationship work when working with individuals. It is designed to be an overview for beginners as well as a review of core components of change for the more experienced providers or providers who want to understand how to apply skills for a variety of dyads. The clinician will review major approaches and then discuss both the differences and commonalities in the approaches – and how you may want to think about selecting an approach. An overview of ethical considerations for working with couples will be discussed.
Participants will learn to:
1. Identify and describe the basics of working with dyads, both in couple’s therapy as well as when including partners in individual work.
2. Evaluate and select approaches and core components that influence acceptance and change in partners.
3. Identify ethical concerns with working with couples – identifying appropriate boundaries, cultural awareness and remaining unbiased.
4. How to apply the core concepts of couples work to a variety of populations – individuals, co-parents, family dyads.
