VACP will be hosting the annual (except last year, of course) Legislative Hill Visit day in Richmond on Monday, January 24. Please join us and help us protect pro-mental health policy and the practice of Psychology in Virginia.
The events of the past few years underscore the vital role of state legislatures in shaping not just regional but also national policies that affect the lives of our citizens. This VACP event has become more important than ever.
WHAT IS A “HILL DAY”?
This means VACP members meet and go visit members of the State Legislature in their individual offices to encourage them to vote for proposed bills that can have a positive impact on mental health policies and our profession.
We will meet in Richmond for a coffee meeting on Monday morning to clarify our objectives for the day, and then proceed together to the State Capitol Building together, where we will go talk to our representatives in teams of two or three. We’ll likely wrap up around 3:30 or 4pm. Specific details will follow
I went for the first time two years ago. Four of us carpooled together to Richmond, I found it to be a fascinating and rewarding experience. I felt I gained a tremendous insight into how our state government really works. Most importantly I felt like I’d done something substantial for my profession and the community we serve.
If you are interested in joining us, or have any questions, please let me know, and we’ll talk. Meanwhile, mark your calendar!
Best wishes,
Laurentia
